Medical Mission: January 2008
This was our first medical mission trip. It would not have taken place without the help of our dear friends, Jerry Siero and Claudia Esperanza Reyes Leiva, Ottoniel and Mercedes Auguello, Gustavo Castillo, and our team of local physicians, all from Managua.
Dr. Gerardo Mejia Baltodano, pediatrician and the medical director of the Mascota Hospital for Children, provided us an operating room, assistants and an anesthesia team for three days. Dr. Dorianela Arguello Castillo, a plastic surgery resident, selected the patients, prepared the patients for surgery and provided all post-op care. Dr. Armondo Siu, Dr. Arguello Castillo's instructor and mentor, sponsored her work. They volunteered their time for children who otherwise would not have received surgery.
